Who can register a .eu domain?

To register a .eu domain names you must be one of the following:

  1. Undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community;
  2. Organizations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law;
  3. Natural person's resident within the European Community.

At the launch of .eu, there will be a sunrise period of 4 months during which only public bodies and those with recognized rights to a name (such as trademark holders) may register.

Immediately after the sunrise period .eu domain registration will open on a first come first served basis. Anyone who satisfies the geographical criteria for .eu domain, set out above and is in compliance with the terms and conditions of registration may register a .eu domain name that is still available.

Term of Registration

A .eu domain name is registered for a period of one year, in advance. The .eu domain name will be renewed on the anniversary date and the registration fee will be paid in advance.

Applying for a domain name: step by step register .eu domain

  1. choose a name

    A .eu domain name must be unique. To check whether a given name is still available use the registration form.
    .eu Domain names must meet with a number of technical requirements:

    • .eu domain will contain minimum 2 characters among the letters "a to z",
      the numbers "0 to 9" and the hyphen "-";
    • .eu domain will contain maximum de 63 characters;
    • .eu domain must not begin or end with a hyphen;
    • .eu domain must not contain a hyphen "-" on the 3rd and 4th position.

    In accordance with .EU domain Regulation 733/2002 and EC Regulation 874/2004, some .eu domain names are blocked from ever being registered and some are reserved for use by the institutions of the EU or the governments of member states, EEA countries and candidate countries. As soon as the European Commission announces the list of blocked .eu domains, it will publish.
